Solideo String Quartet

Hailing from the four borders of the United States, the Solideo Quartet is a promising string quartet eager to explore music that has withstood time past and present. Just as each member comes from a different part of the nation, the quartet seeks to share that chamber music can bring people from diverse communities together into unity. The Solideo Quartet recently graduated from The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as the Graduate String Quartet in Residence with the admired mentors and internationally-acclaimed Jupiter Quartet.

Solideo members Heather Beckman and Joshelle Conley (violin), William Satterfield(viola), and Jun Lee(cello) have been soloists with the Granada Symphony, Rocky Ridge Young Artist Orchestra, Tucson Pops Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, and the Concord Chamber Orchestra. The Solideo Quartet has worked closely with the Jupiter Quartet, Dover Quartet, Miro Quartet, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Masumi Per Rostad, Dmitri Murrath, Francisco Fullana, Axel Strauss, and Charles Castleman. They have received masterclasses with artists from the Pacifica, Cavani, Vermeer, and Concord Quartets.

In 2021 they were selected as finalists in the Coltman Chamber Competition, and were third prize winners in the chamber division of the American Prize. Furthermore, the Solideo Quartet offered its Midwestern debut with countertenor Reggie Mobley at the Carthage College Fine Arts Series and performed and taught during their first visiting string quartet residency at Illinois Wesleyan University. In their first year together, they appeared as the Emerging String Quartet in Residence for Community Engagement at the Music in the Vineyards Festival in Napa Valley, and also appeared at the Centrum Chamber Music Festival.. The Solideos hold leading positions in the Illinois Modern Ensemble, and have premiered more than seven contemporary string quartets during their time at UIUC. The Solideo Quartet looks forward to delving deeper into both new and traditional string quartet repertoire and supporting the works of contemporary composers by bringing music to diverse communities, thus creating positive change as people of different circumstances are brought together through shared emotions and understanding.

The Solideo Quartet seeks to make music alive and accessible to all types of communities pulling from traditional to contemporary compositions. Committed to pursuing high standards in its interactions with music and audiences, Solideo aims to bring glory to God following the example of J.S. Bach. Soli deo Gloria.
