Biography

Music is a powerful tool for community engagement and individual empowerment. Violinist Heather Beckman seeks to share new ideas through this avenue with particularly underrepresented and under-performing neighborhoods.

As a founding member of the President’s String Quartet and the Solideo String Quartet, Heather has helped bring classical and contemporary works to uncommon spaces and diverse audiences in order to promote empathy, conversation across generations and cultures, and further access to live performances. Heather has Elementary Education and Music degrees from Carthage College, University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, and the University of Illinois. She has studied closely with Nelson Lee, Megan Freivogel, Charles Castleman, Andrew Williams, and Jacqueline Bartsch- Fisher.

Heather has been invited to perform with the Menomonee Falls Symphony and Concord Chamber Orchestra in addition to the Carthage Philharmonic. Additionally, she has been a Henry Mancini Fellow and was selected to be the inaugural graduate String Quartet in Residence at UIUC under the renowned Jupiter Quartet.

The artistic director of Raise the Bar, a virtual mentorship program, Heather matches leading professional musicians with students who have little access to music education in the suburbs of Chicago. Raise the Bar has grown to provide hundreds of hours of free lessons and mentorship and has had the privilege to partner with the Negaunee Music Institute of the Chicago Symphony, and members of the Back to Bach Project, the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, the New World Symphony, and more. Heather looks forward to creating opportunities to bring people together through teaching and sharing chamber music with communities in the years to come.
